Honestly, between MSFS's downloading experience, and how crap origin is. I wouldn't be surprised if microsoft intentionally set up their downloader this way to screw steam users out of refunds.

People who RIGHTFULLY want a refund because the download makes this game borderline unplayable (making this a faulty and falsely advertised product) wind up with like "80 hours played" without ever getting past the installer, invalidating their chance at a refund. Why does this matter? Because steam's refund system is based on hours played. Probably about a third of my time listed here was actually spent flying anything. And since the downloader and load screens are both in game, you will never have an accurate amount of playtime listed on steam. This game also has loooong loading times. I think the reason they went this route was to make it easier to port the game to different platforms, but dear GOD, I wish they'd taken a little extra time to just port the game into Steam's download server system. MSFS, if you want people to play your game, then stop developing new content, go back, and your installer. And I have friends who have given up on it entirely, because of not just how slow it is, but how regularly it gets perma stuck.

I had to troubleshoot the installer for days before it would finally fully install the game. Then this proprietary launcher is total dogshite. The steam "game" you buy is really just a game key or something. They made a proprietary downloader and launcher. I boycotted Origin because its such an awful service, like, ya'll don't Fing get it do ya?Īnyway, microsoft unfortunately went that route. They finally caved to putting EA games on steam, only for me to find out that it force launches origin from steam. Provide a good service, and maybe I'll use your service.
Steam actually uses up my entire bandwidth to get games downloaded ASAP, the downloads are 99.99% flawless, and when games get corrupted, they have a "verify game files" option that fixes your install way faster than any other troubleshooting method, and without having to uninstall and reinstall games. I cannot understand how other companies utterly fail in this department where steam succeeds, and I don't think other studios quite understand this is probably the biggest key to steam's success.
I actually waited for the steam version of this game to come out because, quite frankly, steam has the best downloading service of any game launcher. Pretty much all of the negative reviews are about the download experience, and I couldn't agree more with them. I'm going to get the criticism out of the way first.
